Donate and Assemble Hygiene Kits

Hygiene kits are the most requested item by clients here at GLIDE. We give away 75-100 hygiene kits a week, but if we could, we’d give out a hundred every day. By purchasing, assembling, and donating hygiene kits, you can help provide practical support while helping clients maintain their health, comfort, and dignity, from your office/school.

How it Works

1. Purchase supplies

Purchase new, unopened bulk hygiene products in travel sizes. We recommend purchasing through DollarDays, an affordable bulk item supplier, by reaching out to Marc Winkleman at mwinkelman@dollardays.com. Marc has a suggested list of recommended products from GLIDE for easy purchasing. 500 hygiene kits cost approximately $2,500, which is enough for a group of 30 to assemble in 60 minutes. You may also include notes of affirmation to extend the volunteer time (i.e. “you are loved”, “wishing you comfort”, “you deserve kindness”). Suggested items to include are:

  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Soap
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrushes
  • Deodorant
  • Body lotion
  • Gallon size plastic bags/ziplock bags (1 for each kit)
  • 20 large unscented garbage bags for transportation
  • Optional: Lip Balm, disposable razors, body wipes, menstrual pads, warm socks

2. Assemble the kits

Kits can be assembled by volunteers at your office/school, and dropped off at GLIDE. Place one of each item in a clear plastic bag, seal it, and add it to a garbage bag/box for transportation. When you run out of items, if you have leftovers of some products, we can use those in the bags we assemble weekly.

3. Donate the completed kits

Hygiene kits can be dropped off at GLIDE from 9am-5pm Monday-Friday. We are located at 330 Ellis Street, San Francisco, CA, 94102. If you are able, please email volteam@glide.org with an estimated time for the donation, and the number of hygiene kits being donated.

We unfortunately do not have the ability to pick up hygiene kits. We suggest using services like TaskRabbit or Lugg.

Thank you for your generosity and kindness!
